I work with clients who range from highly detailed to almost completely hands-off. A recent project slowed down because I assumed silence meant approval, but they were actually waiting for updates. How do you adjust communication so clients feel heard, informed, and confident throughout the work?

Totally feel this – silence is such a tricky signal! I had a client once who barely replied for weeks, so I assumed everything was smooth. Turns out, they were waiting for me to send a quick weekly recap. Once I started dropping a 3-bullet update every Friday (“Done, Next, Blocked?”), they suddenly felt way more in the loop and confident. Now I ask upfront: “How often do you want updates, and what format works best?” Some clients love short Loom videos; others just want a Slack ping. Matching their style early saves so much guesswork. I actually wrote more about adapting to different client rhythms here: Nathan Garries nothing flashy, just real lessons from the field. The key? Don’t assume – ask, then lead the rhythm with consistent, purposeful check-ins.

Love this — so practical and human. That 3-bullet Friday recap is genius; it’s simple but makes clients feel instantly in control. I’ve started asking the same “how often + what format” question upfront, and it’s cut so much confusion. Also appreciate the Loom vs. Slack tip — matching their vibe really does make all the difference. Thanks for sharing the link too; always good to learn from real-world tweaks like yours. Cheers!
