I’m thinking about moving my phone number to a different provider because my current plan feels expensive and I want better data value. Before I port my number, what should I check about coverage, eSIM activation, device locking, billing dates, and keeping two-factor texts working?

Make sure your phone is unlocked and supports eSIM if that is what the new carrier uses. Write down your account number and check whether any device balance remains. I switched last spring and set a reminder to cancel autopay only after the first successful bill from the new provider.

When I moved to a new apartment, my old carrier’s signal became unreliable indoors, so I compared plans and coverage maps before changing. I kept my number, activated the new eSIM on Wi-Fi, and tested calls, texts, mobile data, and bank messages before removing the old profile. A colleague also suggested reading neutral feedback such as Virgin Mobile Canada customer service number, then deciding based on your own coverage and budget needs.
