Our company has been considering taking on more projects involving screw pile foundations, and I have started researching dedicated installation equipment. At the moment, we rely on different tools depending on the job, but I wonder whether investing in a specialised machine would make our workflow more organised. Of course, the initial cost is something to think about, especially if the workload changes throughout the year. For contractors who already use this type of equipment, was buying a dedicated helical pile machine a worthwhile decision? What factors would you consider before making that investment?

I think it mainly depends on how frequently you install helical piles and what kind of projects you usually handle. If this work is a regular part of your business, having your own machine may offer more control over scheduling and equipment availability. I recently came across the Cougar helical pile machine from Iron Mechanics while researching this subject:nhttps://iron-mechanics.com/product/helical-pile-machine/. It has a tracked chassis and a telescopic boom, and the manufacturer lists several torque configurations. I would compare those specifications with the pile sizes and ground conditions you normally encounter. It is also worth asking about servicing, transport and spare parts before making a decision.
