Micro Market Recovery Program Description:

The Micro Market Recovery Program (MMRP) is a neighborhood stabilization initiative targeting small geographic areas that are experiencing higher-than-normal problems with foreclosures and vacant homes.  Austin Coming Together is the City of Chicago’s Austin MMRP community partner. We work with our members to re-occupy vacant residential buildings and help existing residents to remain in their homes.

Position Description:

The primary role of the MMRP Intern is to research vacant properties and share that information with the Austin Forward. Together. Quality-of-Life Plan Task Force members and other ACT members working to stabilize the housing market. More specifically, the MMRP Intern is responsible for:

  • Completing an inventory of all vacant properties in the Austin MMRP target area
  • Conducting research on all properties in the Austin MMRP that are listed on the MLS, on the Cook County Land Bank website, in housing court, and all other vacant properties
  • Creating and sharing weekly vacant building reports with ACT members and members of the Austin  Forward. Together. Quality-of-Life Plan Housing Task Force
  • Communicating MMRP home purchase incentives to local real estate brokers
  • Communicating homeowner resources to property owners in the MMRP

Qualifications:

  • Current student or background in Urban Planning, Architecture, or Real Estate
  • Extensive research capabilities and experience with data and database management
  • Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills, time management and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Ability to use Adobe creative suite or other software to create user friendly reports
  • Experience working in Westside neighborhoods of Chicago; Austin community preferred
  • Passion for community development
  • Strong commitment to ACT’s mission, vision and values

Hours and Compensation:

This is a part-time temporary position. The intern will complete 300 hours of work at $16/hour over 12-15 weeks. This position reports to the Deputy Director.
