Organization Description

Austin Coming Together is the backbone support organization for a broad network of private, public, and non-profit organizations that share a vision for a thriving Austin community. Our mission is to increase the collective impact of our member organizations on education and economic development outcomes in the Austin community of Chicago. ACT and our members have created a long-term strategy called “Thrive 2025,” a blueprint for collective impact over the next 10 years. In tandem with Thrive 2025, ACT is partnering with Austin community members and organizations to mobilize, implement, and evaluate the Austin Quality of Life Plan.

Initiative Description

ACT operates the Austin Community Hub, a radically hospitable space where we welcome ACT member organizations and Austin residents to collaborate, connect and get support. One of the primary goals of the Hub is to thoughtfully engage with as many Austin residents as possible and to refer them to services and opportunities in our vast network of providers. In order to accomplish this goal, the Engagement Coordinator must execute our annual community engagement plan, which involves direct outreach in Austin, coordinating engagement events in the Hub, partnering with our Youth Engagement Coordinator on youth events, and maintaining key relationships in the Austin Community.

Position Description – Engagement Coordinator

The Community Engagement Coordinator is accountable for 1) Executing the direct community outreach strategy for the Austin Community Hub; 2) Engaging and mobilizing a network of key stakeholders to connect Austin residents to the Austin Community Hub and broader ACT Network; 3) Partnering with the Youth Engagement Coordinator to organize weekly youth engagement events at the Hub. In order to carry out this role effectively, the Coordinator must deliver a clear and consistent message about the Hub, maintain up-to-date knowledge of member-related programs and services, be able to communicate and establish rapport with a diverse range of residents and stakeholders, and be able to leverage relationships and networks to increase referrals to the Hub and ACT Network. Additionally, special emphasis is put on developing relationships and finding contact information of residents within the Austin Micro Market Recovery Program (MMRP) Target Area. Core responsibilities include:

  • Maintain strong working relationships with a minimum of 15 leaders in the Austin community including faith leaders, block club presidents, community resource center administrators, outreach workers etc. through regular one-to-one meetings and by supporting their work;
  • Provide at least 35 new contacts for the Austin Community Hub through direct community outreach and indirect referrals made through other community leaders and residents
  • Conduct direct community outreach in the Austin MMRP weekly
  • Provide information about ACT member resources and supports (i.e. ACT Hub calendar, MMRP subsidies, ACT member programs, etc.) to key stakeholders like school principals, real estate brokers, block club presidents, and other influential leaders;
  • Accompany neighbors to access the resources of ACT and our member organizations, as needed in coordination with the Austin Community Hub Team
    Perform quarterly troubled and vacant property inventories within the MMRP Target area and find contact information for property owners;
  • Attend and co-facilitate 1 monthly circle or event at the Austin Community Hub to engage your network of community leaders
  • Partner with the Youth Engagement Coordinator to prepare, coordinate and sometimes facilitate youth engagement events


The Engagement Coordinator must have 2-3 years experience in Community Organizing, Community Development, Outreach, or related fields. The position requires a familiarity with the Austin community, a sparkling personality, experience with relationship management, a willingness and ability to use data management tools, the ability to use email marketing and social media tools, and a high level of self-motivation. A two or four year degree in an applicable field may be substituted in lieu of work experience.

Hours and Compensation

The is a full-time salaried position with health benefits. The Community Engagement Coordinator is expected to work evenings and weekends when necessary. Compensation for the position ranges from $35,000 to $40,000 annual salary, based on experience.
