Initiative Description

The Austin Community Food Co-Op seeks to empower and uplift the Austin community by providing access to local food through a member-owned grocery store and educational opportunities to learn about food literacy. Our vision is to strengthen the health, wellness, and local economy of the Austin community through cooperation. Position Description

The Community Relations Coordinator position is responsible for community engagement and communications on behalf of the co-op. Specifically, this role will be accountable for planning and organizing opportunities for the co-op to build local awareness with Austin residents; establishing and managing partnerships and relationships with other Austin stakeholders addressing the lack of access to healthy food in the neighborhood; and facilitate day to day marketing activities of the co-op. This role will have to be confident working in collaboration with a team, as well as independently. Essential job functions include:

Community Engagement:

  • Manage ongoing relationships with vendors and partnering organizations.
  • Identify, travel to, and/or attend community outreach events, meetings and conferences that are relevant to Austin Community Food Co-Op’s mission and enhance its visibility to attract support from community residents and partners.

Marketing and Communications:

  • Prepare and publish promotional materials to communicate through online and print marketing campaigns and social media outlets with all ACFC supporters and partners.
  • Conducts questionnaire surveys to gather information and continuously assess food access needs in the community.
  • Work closely with the leadership team to ensure all contact lists are up-to-date and correspondence is sent out to relevant individuals and organizations as needed.
  • Organize and keep inventory of the co-ops promotional items as well as actively inform Creative Director when items need to be replenished

Qualifications

This is a newly created role and is ideal for someone who is passionate about the wellbeing of the Austin community. Our hope is to discover someone who is interested in growing with the initiative and possesses the adaptability and organization to work with a virtual team.

An Associates or Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 1 year of related experience in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred. The position requires a familiarity with the Austin community, experience with relationship management, a willingness and ability to use data management tools, the ability to use email marketing and social media tools, and a high level of self-motivation.

Work Requirements

This job will be done in a hybrid environment working from home and in the field as needed.There will be regular virtual meetings scheduled to work collaboratively with supervisor and community partners. Work completed will be reported to the supervisor during office hours. This role needs access to standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, scanners, and file storage.

Hours and Compensation

This is a part-time contract position that will complete up to 512 hours of work at $16/hour over 14-16 weeks. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. The parties may extend or modify the terms of this Scope of Work by mutual agreement.
