There’s a lot happening in Chicago’s Austin community. Decades of disinvestment has created a complex collection of challenges that have only been worsened by the pandemic, such as food insecurity, quality education, and well-paying jobs. Austin was one of the areas hit hardest by COVID-19 because of the underlying instability here. Right now, residents are even struggling to get their kids connected to online learning, or with simply paying their rent.

But Austin is so much more than that. It is an incredibly passionate community of people who truly care for one another. Recent years have seen an uprising of individuals and groups working together to create change.

And that is why Austin Coming Together (ACT) cares!

We have been serving and caring for Austin since 2010, so when crisis struck, we jumped into action doing what we do best — identifying needs and helping to generate opportunities for solutions.

Since the pandemic began, we’ve been able to work alongside our members and other partners to:

  • Support 8+ recurring COVID-19 vaccination sites, 5 temporary sites, and 39+ one-time events that have vaccinated over 56% of Austin’s resident population so far
  • Give out over 600,000lbs of food through eleven pop-up food distributions
  • Support five new COVID-19 testing sites
  • Distribute more than 88,500 masks to everyone from seniors to the homeless
  • Facilitate $140,000 of direct financial assistance to families
  • Connect residents to 500 laptops

But more is needed!

When you donate to ACT, you are directly supporting Austin families.
